Fluval External Power Filters - Featuring Easy Change Filter Media Baskets

Fluval's have been carefully designed to permit a variety of media to be separated into three distinct interconnected chambers, offering a number of advantages over the more common practice of simply layering assorted filter media on top of one another. The interconnecting chambers have solid sides which do not permit water to enter where it pleases, rather the solid sides ensure that water may only enter from the bottom of the chamber stack. Each water molecule must pass progressively through each media chamber before it is pumped back to the aquarium. There is no possibility of bypass around the chambers so 100% of the water that enters the filter passes through 100% of the media.

The triple chamber design permits the aquarist to experiment with new filter media, mixing and matching filter capabilities to his own tastes and requirements. If disease treatment or other circumstance requires attention to a part of the media, the independent chamber design allows that single chamber to be disassembled and emptied, rather than requiring the aquarist to dig through unaffected layers until the right one is found. This reduces the chance of discarding valuable media before it is expended. Expensive filter media can be added and removed as a need arises, without disturbing the biological balance of other chambers.

A secondary benefit of the triple chamber design is the conservation of beneficial bacteria during media change. A part of the media can be left untouched during replacement and serve to "seed" the entire filter more rapidly. This helps to ensure continuous biological removal of ammonia and nitrite even right after a media replacement.

The FLUVAL concept of massive media volume coupled with the ability to change as much or as little of the media contents in the chambers as required is a powerful weapon in disease treatment and general filtration practice. Couple this with the fact that all water has no choice but to come into contact with every media level and you have one of the most effective filtration methodologies developed for the modern day aquarist. FLUVAL is truly the serious aquarists best friend for powerful and complete filtration.
